Out in the frost last weekend, I found out that an urgent stop whistle whilst eating a chocolate bar isn’t to be advised either.

Is it just to teach Coal?

If so I've just retaught it with Basil (to mean sit now and not stop).

I have to confess I got OH to help with the session and that was what cracked it as my whistle and command was just all slurry.

So I did heel work and asked for periodic sits, each time his bum went down OH whistled for me, then after half a dozen or so he just did the whistle without the 'sit', there was a pause but he second guessed and I gave loads of praise and the penny dropped for him.

I also used it outside training for a while to reinforce it in situations he already knew to sit, like crossing roads and the end of a verbal recall.

i've dropped the word with finn but coal needs a reminder every now and again that his bum is required to at least me near the floor!

John.... will heed that advice not eat and blow whistle at same time! Laughing

I have to say Sam even with Coal I would probably stop using sit. Blow the whistle and if bum doesn't hit ground, place it there.

Otherwise you will find he will tend not to sit when he is away from you side and you will end up hollering sit!!! Very unprofessional Wink .
