Lol @ Suzy.....

I am still doing my 'usual' anti pulling training with normal flat collar and lead, and its going well, i can see some improvement. No, she doesn't walk to heel whilst off lead, but then, i've never insisted on it. The only time she does is if i'm waving a stick about lol otherwise she's happy to trot off and do her thing (and i've let her) Embarassed

Thing is, she needs a new collar anyway, so I was wondering if something like this would help compliment the training i'm already doing with her??? Wink

The collar i showed is more like a slip lead but there is a ring to stop the lead pulling tighter and tighter. So most of the time the collar hangs loose but if it tightens, its stopped by the ring from getting any tighter than a normal collar would normally be. hope that makes sense

whereas the half check is more of a loop of chain that tighens when taut but there is less of a slacking off.

sure that makes no sense at all!

I personally don't think it will help whatsoever with the pulling, nope.

I think you should start training her to walk to heel off lead... and in turn, will help to walk to 'heel' on lead... usually done the other way around, but, no harm trying, as it seems the pulling whilst on lead is imprinted on her brain..

Failing that, me and my scary voice is always on offer to you! Laughing Wink

Hi Jemima. I've switch to a half-check after Cadbury snapped his last collar. He doesn't wear it all the time. He has a nylon collar for around the house. But when we are loose lead training or going to training class he does wear it and, I have to say, over the last 2 weeks since he has worn it I have noticed an improvement in his walking - don't know if its a coincidence or what. But he doesn't pull me across the room at training like he tried to do sometimes.

But I have been working hard on his heelwork. We had our first loose lead training session with the half-check on Sunday and I have to say he walked really well on it. When he started to get ahead I turned the chain clinked and he came straight back to my side.

I never thought I would use a half-check, but now I see how it works (and it is not so tight that when he does get over-excited and pulls it chokes him) I am very happy with it.

It also gives me peace of mind that he probably can't snap this one Laughing

Don't want to go offtopic here, but have you tried just a normal harness on her Jemima?

My border collie is a weirdo. She will heel without a leash on request, but when she is on the leash (heading toward the park or beach direction) she can be an absolute stinker for pulling on a normal flat collar & leash.

If i put her harness on her, its actually like a different dog! She trots by my side, happily trotting toward the beach, right by my side. Honestly, its the weirdest thing in the entire world! I swear its just a normal cheap harness from PAH. No fancy anti-pulling harness or any of that malarky! I think its cost about £8 from PAH and its just the most basic thing you can get.

She is just like a changed dog when wearing it! It's soooo strange! Yet when she has a flat collar & leash on, its enough to make blood come from your eyeballs its so frustrating lol. Lucy might be similar to my Meg and it may work Very Happy x

Jill, i did have a normal body harness for her when she was a pupster, because when we took her to puppy socialisation, she was such a minx and would choke herself to death trying to get round to see all the other pups! I don't know if it would fit her now but i might try! From previously using it with her, i didn't seem to stop her pulling, but that was a while ago now! Rolling Eyes
