We had a great day out Picking up today. Started off with a full breakfast at the battlesteads hotel which was great as always and then onto the shoot once certain people had finished their mystery tour of the local area (i.e Lost  )
It was Beaters day and OH was shooting. He took Norman and I took Shady. Shady did so well seeing as she hasnt been out untill last week for a couple of years and pick a few birds. The First I was going to send her for was taken from in front of her very eyes by a very keen dog, (not mentioning names ) but was very good for teaching her not all birds are hers, which she tends to think they are and she has stolen one or two in her time  , she did pick another bird which was a great shot by an 11 year old lad Sam with a .410 which everyone was chuffed about as it was a high bird so that was the high light of the day and Sam should be chuffed to bits. Then back to the cars for a drink and chat and organise the next drive.
Shady also picked a runner which was a good shot from Lisa and also her first bird from a wood that I didnt think she would find but as Steve (Trainer) is always telling me trust your dog they can do it, she did, Shady was called upon again on the same drive to find another runner which again she did no problem,big learning curve for me leave her be and she will do her job.
Norman had his first day on the peg and was very well behaved sitting steady and not running off which was is fantastic and we are really pleased with him, he also hunted well and found a couple of birds . I did at one point put my foot in a very deep wet hole and my foot was frozen lol and I did rip my trousers on a bit of fencing, and a very nice man is going to fix them for me lol . Steve brought Meg with him and she had her first Retrieve on feather which she did like a pro and Keiths dog also had a good day.
After the final drive we all went back to the pub for a drink and talk about the day. A great day was had by all yet again and I would like to thank Steve and Keith for inviting us along and we are looking forward to next week.

Well done too both Sam and Shadybug and the gang, it's good to see young Sam listened to sound advice and took a splendid high hen with a .410, many would be proud to have shot it with the 12 bore. I'm sure he'll remember it for the rest of his life.
Also good to see is Shadybug putting her advice from training days into dedicated practice which is now paying dividends.
