I like the photo of your Jill. 
Is there a resemblance? If someone could post a photo of the two Jills side by side, then we can take a vote on it. 
I can't recall where I actually read the information on "cocking" ( ), but I know I did, and it appears to make some sense with regard to how cockers got their names when the different breeds of spaniel were defined.
