Was out on me shoot today.
with Jill the spaniel And the wee Lab
The main quarry was the elusive woodcock
It was a very very cold start and was basically a walk around with a few mate's, We had one in the bag within the first half hour.
In the end everyone got a shot if it was a woodcock or pheasant.
All were very hard split second shot's, I got a woodcock which was a near enough vertical shot between a ride Which wee jill got onto and retreived to hand. We seen hundered's or woodcock (more than pheasant's) and ended up with 9 woodcock and 6 phessie's (one of which is a stunning cockbird)
Here's the bag after some took there bird's
Beautiful bird's woodcock's
And a little Conundrum for you all, Guess what cross of dog this is ?
I thought that dog was a cocker spaniel. Looks from the photo just like my blue roan one.
Is cocker in the cross? Cocker and pointer, cocker and lab.
Does the fact that you are shooting woodcock mean that cocker is involved? Or is that coincidental? Cockers were bred to flush woodcock and other similar game out of undergrowth after all, or that is my own (possibly mistaken) understanding anyway.
And the Dog is called a Sprointer- A cross between a German shorthaired pointer and yes.. a spaniel You dont know the size of this dog.
The back end of him is nearly up to my waist
And yes topseyt there was 3 cocker's and i think they are best for woodcock flushing, followed close along with springer's
