I seen this thread before but never got round to replying.

I used to have a GSD and I have to say he was the best retriever I have known. Both him and his father, whom my parents inherited, just loved to retrieve and would do so all day if they found a human willing to participate.

I think they are lovely intelligent dogs and are every bit as gentle as a labrador. They can have problems though if in the wrong hands but I feel that is human error rather than the dogs' fault.

I've attached a photo of my boy although it's not the best one of him as it makes him look like he had a sloping back but he didn't and it was quite straight.

Sorry Becs but I think both you and your OH would love one.

He looks gorgeous Eileen..........but there's no way I'm letting OH read your post or see the picture!!! Laughing

If I knew more about GS's and knew the right breeders and the right lines etc, I'd be (slightly!) less reluctant to consider one. But as I don't, and none of the ones that I have met in recent years have particularly done 'it' for me, I think I'll stick to Labs and Goldies,
