This is exactly what I came to look for - thank-you. I'm so glad it was a Sticky.

We will be introducing a new puppy to a 3 year old in a few weeks time - so I've got plenty of reading to do!

Thanks for that Jules. Our problem is the two dogs dont actually live together as 10 year old Abby lives with my Mum and Dad.

They have gone from Abby running away from Marley and hiding, to constant barking at each other and now one or twice Abby has pranced towards Marley.

On the whole I think she still sees him as a complete pain in the neck!

Thank you for this post, I think I read it about twice a day for reassurance. I am terrified that I've done the wrong thing getting a pup. Tess is 8 and has the sweetest temperament of any dog ever, I'd never heard her growl until the pup came into the house. Grace is 15 weeks old now and she is jumping all over Tess and biting her. I'm giving lots of time outs and they are never left alone together (Grace is in her crate and Tess has the run of the house).

They walk nicely on lead together along the road, but if I take them somewhere for off lead time Grace is just chasing poor Tess and Tess is clearly hating it, I have to put Grace straight back on lead. Because Grace can't walk far at present Tess is getting plenty of walks by herself. I am getting so anxious that things won't settle down and I keep thinking of two people I know whose dogs never got one - one ending up rehoming their young dog the other kept their dogs separated 100% of the time - I couldn't live like that.

How long does the "crocodile" phase last? Tess was a terribly bitey puppy but now I can't remember how long for.

Thank you for that. I was going to start a post on the subject. We have a three-year-old male and are getting a 3-month old puppy on Thursday... Wink

Murphy was 12 when Maggie came to our house as a daily guest...went rather well. When Murphy passed she would look for him Sad Then we got Ralph and Maggie was a star. Now Ralph is 14 months and we have just got Olly (Maggie is the mum) on Saturday night, so far so good. Maggie came for a visit today but Olly followed and slept with Ralph.

This was taken the next morning...my boys Ralph n Olly

Thank you. I have a 7 year old and a 14 month old(both Labs) . I wasn't sure at first how things were going to go between the two. Close surpevision and playing a bit of a referee has paid off. The two now share sleeping quarters and even share favourite toys and water bowl. Hershey my 7 year old has told Kit off once or twice and she was smart enough to get the picture :)

Just read this. As you know, there will be a new pup hopefully by Spring here and I have been worrying my socks off about how it will work with Cadbury, even though he does love puppies.

Your post confirmed a lot of the things I had already been thinking. Thanks Jules
