a friend lost their 3yo Labrador yesterday, was shot by a hunter.
they are looking for a growen up one, with good working ped.

It happens i'm afraid. Its a high risk environment. Guns can get shot too on occasion and pickers up and beaters too. Its not common but it happens.

I also know of two top triallers losing dogs whilst working in the last two years.

Thankfully shooting accidents are not common on bird shoots in the UK. If this happened in Germany, it would be more likely for an accident to happen when shooting ground game whether Hare, Boar or Deer, where rifles or heavy shot are used, often in thick cover. Also in some countries birds are shot by walking as a line of guns over rough country and flushing the birds in front (also done in the UK) where a lost footing could cause an accident.
