14 years ago today we adopted our beloved labrador x 'Herbie'.
Herbs is now either 16 or 18 years old (depending on whether we go with the rescue or the vets estimate)
He was thought to have been a stray from a very young age and was named Herbie by the rescue after 'Herbie goes bananas' because he had loads of bum tuck runs 
His kennel plaque described him as a 'houdini' and indeed he was an escape artist, though that seems to have stopped now (finally!).
He scaled 6 foot fences to indulge his wanderlust and despite having daily walks with us a couple of times a year he would manage to take himself off for long walks lasting hours and causing immense worry. He would run up our street faster than a greyhound and be gone but would always return at nightfall - often with his pads sore and inflamed from all his walking. I suppose it was a freedom he enjoyed from his long days as a stray.
His sight and hearing is no longer what it used to be but he is leading a fine life and we are proud be sharing it with him.
