Ok, I have been trying to stop Jana pulling like a steam train but no joy, I have tried a canny collar, she got it off after 3 minutes, so I cannot see the halti will be any different Confused

Anyone any other ideas what to try, there is no pleasure in walking her with her pulling and I want to enjoy walking her.

Someone suggested a half choke collar but I am not sure about it, I was told by my vet years ago not to use choke collars, so chucked them.

Any ideas please Very Happy

I think I can safely say no collar will stop her pulling.....well not unless you want to use a Prong Collar....and I wouldn't recommend anyone try one of those without training on how to use it first.

Having had a confirmed puller who pulled like a steam train all her life, I can understand your frustration......but I realise now it is all about the training not the gadget. If only I knew then what I knew now Rolling Eyes Laughing .

Morris was an awful puller (sore hands, tugging all over the place, dragging me down the road Rolling Eyes ) and the only way it stopped was consistent training, it would often take over 45minutes to do the 10 minute school walk and I felt like giving up loads of times. It didn't happen overnight, more like months, but using a flat lead and collar we got there in the end. Very Happy (We did try all sorts of collars and leads but this really didn't help, just masked it a bit, he still pulled.)

Thanks Jules

At least I am not the only one Rolling Eyes I am going to try a harness and see if that makes a difference, it did with Roly so it is worth a try.

It is just such a shame as it limits where I can walk her, off lead she is a dream, loves everyone, great recall and I just wish I could crack this and enjoy walking her on the lead Confused

i'd agree with what Jules has said.... coal was a puller and i had to go back to basics and he is 100 times better.... not all the time but most of it.

I picked a technique/method and stuck to it even if we didn't even get past the end of the drive!

I don't think any collar will stop her pulling, it's purely down to the time and patience of training, however frustrating it is.

In saying that, I have used the canny collar with my first dog Rocky - he was a total nightmare, the canny really helped to keep him at my side and within a couple of months we could happily walk without it. Have you tried putting it on her in the house and clicking and treating for happily wearing it before a lead is attached etc? It may help to introduce it slowly, before slapping it on her and asking her to walk nicely with it - I do tend to think they must feel quite funny against their faces!

Linda,

I KNOW how awful it is to have a puller, as I had one! (Missy) I went through ALL the haltis, gentle leaders, harnesses, etc etc.. and YES THEY WORKED, but only for the present.. and as soon as you go back to a collar and lead, you are back at square one!

I wrote out for someone on here about 'how' I got missy to stop pulling, if you want me to copy/paste it over to you, send me a pm and I will send it over to you

Sorry Linda but I really really hate harnesses. A confirmed puller will just throw themselves into it and pull even harder. It's all in the training I am afraid.
