Hi All,

I just want to ask you opinions. . .

A friend of mine has made me lovely reflective dog jackets for Donny and Scout. They have a layer of fleece on the inside and yellow hi viz material with reflective strips. They are really lovely! Donny is 4 and has never worn a coat, always seemed warm enough running about in the park even in the depths of winter! Scout is only 16 weeks.

Basically I was wondering, do you guys think that coats on Labs are ok? They are not very thick but the fleece layer will help to keep the wee one warm and of course make sure I and other people can see them in the park or if we are road walking later in winter.

Do they really need them, would a vest type be better? I have flashing safety blinkers for their collars but hi viz will make sure they are easily seen. Thanks for your opinions.

I think from a safety point of view they sound a good idea, it can be so dark on roads this time of year.

Its not a fashion statement after all, but an effort to keep you and the dogs safe at night. From a motorists point of view reflective clothing is so helpful to show up people (or pets) crossing the road, etc.

Please post pictures once they are wearing them Wink

TBH, I have coats for mine but they are for when we get back to the car after a wet winter walk. Sometimes they can be confined in the boot for a while depending on where we go. The coats help to dry them off a bit quicker and help to stop ageing joints get cold and stiff.

I can see the logic in using one for the youngster, until his full coat comes through.

I bought Ruby a high vis coat for her winter walks ( £1 from the discount shop in Ely!) but the size large wont even go round her. So need to get a new one.

Think its a really good idea!

Thanks guys! I guess I was just look for reassurance! They are not for fashion, more for safety, but I was concerned about the fleece lining in case they would be too warm. I don't think it will be a problem though. Will let you know how I get on with them and what the dogs make of them!

I will post some pics of them wearing them asap.

I think it is a great idea, it will give you reassurance when they are out in the dark they can be seen Smile

I was thinking of getting some for mine but cannot find anything, maybe your friend could start a business Wink

There's a few nice ones on eBay Linda. A couple of fleecy reflective ones on there - that's where she got the idea from! She's a dressmaker and thought it would be fun to try to make a couple. Hope you find some you like!

Thanks for this thread, I happened across a thin reflective vest in PaH yesterday and wondered if I should get one for Indy.
I've had a look on Ebay and decided to get a fleecy one, just while she's small and prone to getting chilly. When can I expect her to have her full coat?
