Bruv has started his work experience on a sheep farm yesterday and sadly one of the farmer's dogs was run over late yesterday afternoon.
They were putting up electric fences in a field when they heard a loud thud from the road and a car driving off. They did a head count of the dogs and then realised that Fungus, the farmer's year old Irish Wolfhound was missing.
They went down to the road and he had been hit in the head by the car and was probably killed instantly. The car had gone, possibly in the dark and bearing in mind the size of the dog the driver had thought they had hit a deer. I don't know.
Apparently there was bits of the car all over the road - it hit the dog that hard.
It was getting dark, so a bit hard to tell, but after they removed poor Fungus they could hear cars going along the road and clipping pieces of metal and such from the accident.
Bit of a bad day for animals all round. They found one lamb dead in the field and another suffering pneumonia that died as they were transporting it back in the car.
It's very upsetting when something like this happens. It's very difficult to keep a close eye on dogs when you are concentrating on something else and even more difficult for a one year old
