Please let me introduce you to Rhys
An adorable Labrador in the care of Friends of the Animals (soon to be LLR member). Rescued from West Wales.
He is a beautiful 4 month old pup who has major problems with his back legs. One is shorter and has no muscle and the other is bowed.
Despite this he can get around, does stairs and loves to play. He does get very tired though and has to sit down every few minutes.
UPDATES FROM EILEEN AT FOA
He does have both hips and they seem ok. His left leg is buckled due to him carrying all his weight on that side. The right leg is fused solid and only has a tiny bit of give in his paw which can be pulled backwards a few inches. It has withered because he cannot use it.
The vet thinks it may have been a neglected break rather than a birth defect.
He has had lotsof xrays done today and the orthopaedic specialist says he will need surgery asap before he gets much bigger. His leg is a dreadful mess. The knee cap is round the outside of his leg, the bone is twisted, the main muscle is in the wrong place and too short and that is just the start.
The good news is that he feels there is a chance and Rhys is booked for surgery on the 20th November for a long operation. In the meantime he will be having some intensive physio to try and loosen up the hamstring. He will be hospitalised for several days.
The basics are that he will have the kneecap moved back to the right place and secured. The bone will be cut through just below the kneecap and twisted round to straighten the leg and fixed either internally with a plate and pins or with an external fixater. He may need further follow-up surgery later.
His other leg is also not quite right but will be left alone for now. This is a complete one off and is not text book so there is no guarantee on the outcomes.
The cost will be in the region of £2,500 which is a special rate as we are a rescue.
Now I would love to see this boy given the opportunity to live a full and happy life, and I am hoping that we can raise some money to help Eileen towards the cost of putting things right.
So I am looking at maybe running an online auction, this would be a great way of buying Xmas pressies and raising money at the same time.
SO...I need your unwanted items, they can be dog or non dog related, I also need someone to help me adminster the auction.
Any volunteers?
ANY DONATIONS TO FOA AND RHYS CAN BE MADE VIA THE WHAM PAYPAL ACCOUNT

OK, For the Online Auction, I need people to pledge items for it, it would be great if those pledging are happy to pay P&P if not please add to your items pledged.
Its a bit like a Blue Peter Bring and Buy sale if you remember those
I will set up a seperate thread for Pledged Items to get the ball rolling.

I have some real BIG goodies for you. After contacting you yesterday I have been working like mad. Have pm'd you. I have told Eileen what I have so far.
So you 'bring' an item, put minimum donation amount for said item and buy something else as well, does that make sense?
