I think you hit the nail on the head by saying its harder because Sammie was the first dog of your own that you`ve lost, having to make "that" decision is the hardest thing any of us have to do BUT we have that choice to allow our beloved furbabies to die with dignity and not keep them hanging on.
Like others I`ve had to make that decision a few times over the years, it doesn`t get any easier with each dog/cat but having the others does help as you have to carry on and care for them.
The last time I lost one of my dogs was 2003 and he was the last of 3 that went within 5 months of each other, (and my mother died too in that 5 months) sadly one of the perils of having oldies, I said I`d never have them so close together in age again but I`ve done it with my cats, two of them only have 6 months between them.
Having been able to make your DVD of Sammie`s life will be a great help to you, like others have said you`ll find yourself smiling at the thoughts you have about her and she`ll always have that place in your heart (((((((Hugs))))))) for you Nikki, wish they could be real ones

Oh Mary, thanks so much.
Yes, I think thats why its so hard - Sammie being my first loss and having to make that dreadful decision. I don't regret making it at all, I knew it was time, I just wish none of it had happened I'm still angry really that she had to get such a horrid tumour. She was also the youngest (except for Scoob) and I never thought she would be the first to go
So sorry to hear about your losses in 2003 and losing your Mum too. It must have been the most terrible time. I can only imagine how distraught you must have been, life can be so cruel.
Its all a big worry with my oldies now, they all have their various problems and are close in age too. Max and Bruno are 11 and the girls 13.
I watched Sam's DVD through with my Mum the other night, we both cried buckets but we smiled through the tears too. Its such a wonderful memory of her and seeing her on all the videos I've taken, just running around, playing and enjoying herself is such a treasure.
