Hi

I'm looking at trying a canny collar on Harley just wondered if anyone had a size 4 they wanted to sell, before I try getting one off the net.

What is your experience with them are they any good? I have a gentle leader but I don't like the way it pulls to the side and it needs replacing as it's looking a bit tired and freyed now.

Thanks

Lisa

I found it invaluable as Baxter got very strong before I had his heelwork sorted (me being slow to teach not him to learn)!

I think he had a size 5, he used to try and rub it off his nose a bit, but it was mostly comfortable and did a great job.

Oooooh - I think I still have Ozzie's Size 4 laying about. It fitted him aged 10 months when I got it, but by 18 months it was too small so I had to buy him a Size 5.

I don't use the Canny on Oz very often, but when I do it works a treat!

I would PM you my details but you're not a site member so I can't PM you - if you join up to LF (it costs £10 for a year's membership) then I will be able to PM you my email address.

Hi Ness

Thanks very much for the offer. Do you want to e-mail me lisa.beer@talktalk.net.

It's really useful to hear everyone opinion on this as there is so many types of collars and harnesses around you could send a fortune on things that don't work.

Has anyone ever tried it and not had much success, why do you think that was?

Thanks

Lisa

Molly has one and it's great but you have to watch her she soon learnt that when you stop walking and the lead goes slack if she yawns and then ducks her head quick the nose bit falls off but as long as you don't let it go slack too often it's not an issue.
Also with 3 young children I do get distracted and one time she did manage to chew it, I've done a lovely bodge fix on it!
We now have her on a harness and it's so much better, she heels better and her horrible goose impersonation barking noise has stopped as shes not strangling herself!
I my opinion it's all down to the training and you have to honestly look at the reason she's pulling before you will know the correct aid to correct it, mine is that with the children I really don't get the time to train her as well as she should be trained, and when on a walk she will be pulling and it will be a while before I realise "Heel Molly, James come away from the edge of the road, William don't go too far ahead, Megan come on or you'll get left behind, Molly will you Heel!" with the harness she can't get it off without me noticing and she can't reach it while walking to chew it, I hold the lead behind me as well which means when I do forget shes got no lead to pull on so she can't do anything other than heel and I just have to remember to praise her, it's made the world of difference.

i use a canny collar for my dog, he has just turned 1yr old, i have found it makes a huge difference to him, as i have back and shoulder problems it has been very very hard to be able to get him to stop pulling without the canny collar on as i don't have any strength in my arms to hold him with a normal collar and lead

I used a canny on my first dog Rocky and it worked a treat - much better than the halti/gentle leader. Would recommend it. Smile

I found my canny fab for Pud but did have a few problems with sizing! 4 was slightly too small and the 5 slightly too big - i would highly recommend a double ended lead so that it is attached to the canny and his usual collar. I stuck with the 5 but had a very scary moment when he pulled back and managed to slip the canny - i was soooo lucky we were walking on the quietest stretch of road - 2 minutes later we would have been on a very busy dual carriageway!
