We had a single flexi used for our lab 10 yrs ago. We had 2 labs then one was obedient and clever and the other was just silly and skittish (his furry plums were removed in a bid to help him gain weight and calm down). We used it when we knew that there would be livestock around and with his halti as he didn't like black dogs (despite other lab being black ). We were taught by our dog trainers that when the flexi is short and lock on hold the handle in your right hand with your thumb over the lock switch and the thick part of the lead in your left. It enures that IF the lock fails there is another hand holding on the instant awareness of the lock failing against your thumb.
I can see the sense in using one with the correct training or awareness of how they can be dangerous. I never knew they could cause such damage until I read this thread. How awful.
