I also know of a rescue who was approached by a breed rescue who had waiting list for certain dogs and the rescue basically told them to go away. Althought the said dogs was not as risk of be pts , but it would have given extra space for the rescue to take in dogs that are at risk
It is just to horrible to even think about. I know it happens., but how sad. Labs can have quite a few puppies in one litter. Why do people, Lab owners think because they think they have bought a good pedigree pup,and therefore breed from that pup and then think they can sell the pups and make money from the offspring. Those days are long gone. thank god.But still they think they can breed with them. I know it does/nt only happen within the Lab breed. It happens accross the board. Maybe if we could find a way of, getting this accross to people in some way. Leave it to those who know what they are doing. Only then we will have a breed with none of the health problems that we have got these days.
If you want to see what a Pound deals with on a daily basis, this wonderful rescue helps find rescue spaces for every dog from West Yorkshire pounds
This is happening all over the UK, and is just a tiny snapshot.

For even one dog to be PTS is one too much, if the dog is healthy and could be rehomed
What is the answer, should we go back to dog licence's have to be given out, then if a dog is surrendered a reason should be given before you can home another one ie dog was aggressive with children so given to rescue to find a hoe with no children.
But like everything who could possibly police this, the good people would abide by the law and the others would ignore it, so possibly no help in the above whatsoever
I have to admit that I have thought of rescue but I would worry about fitting in with my son, but it is something I will definitely do when he is older
I have now learned that things are different and most dogs are in rescue through no fault of there own. But i stil think alot of people still share these views.
Yes, I think so too and have seen people express concerns about taking on a Rescue on this forum too, and I CAN understand that. Nonetheless it is a great shame.
The last three dogs I have brought into this house have all been rescues. I have been happy with all the proceedures and the Rescue Centres involved, and I have been MORE than happy with the dogs themselves, ecstatic in fact.
Of course, in life, not everyone will have a happy story to tell and it is a sad fact of life that most people will remember the bad experiences/stories better than the good ones, the latter far, far outweighing the bad ones.
I hear you about the politics Di. So many Rescue Centres, so many stressed people, no overall governing body or umbrella organisation, lots of people pulling in different directions with their own agendas, inevitable sadly that politics comes into play.
