We have two lab in Spain and there are Olive and Almond trees on our land. Since Holly and Buddy have been pups they have eaten dried olives that are on the ground with no ill effects.
They have recently started to eat the almonds dropped from the trees in their husks. We are not sure if they are eating right through and getting the nut out.
The other day Holly passed an Almond husk complete. Again no ill effects.
They also eat snails from the trees which the vet hadn't come across before but said at least they were getting plenty of protein and not to worry.
Finally they have vomited excessively after eating the seed pods of the carob tree belonging to our neighbours. Is there a connection as carob is a chocolate substitute and chocolate is very bad for dogs. Anyway we will be keeping them away from that tree in future.
Does anyone have any comment/advise on the olives, almonds or snails.
Thanks Gene

Hi Gene, I know this is a really old post but I found it when looking for something else and then saw that you had been around on the forum within the last month, so you might see this
I'm not aware that there's a problem for dogs to eat olives or almonds in moderation (someone correct me if I'm wrong ) although I'd be concerned in case the husks caused a blockage, but hopefully would pass through.
I wouldn't want the dogs to eat snails though. There have been warnings this year in the UK about dogs getting lungworm/heartworm from eating snails. I'm not sure how prevalent it is in Spain, if it is at all, but it wouldn't be a habit I'd want to encourage.
Not sure about carob, but wise to keep them away if it has made them that sick.
