I've only progressed to looking at the insurance issue thus far and if I do proceed with the venture, it was my preferred intention to only house one or two dogs from one household at a time. I'm not absolutely sure about the licence issue yet although I was under the impression that this only applied if you are housing in excess of 3 dogs. It's similar to the licensing with people who breed dogs; if you breed from one or two of your own pets, no licence is necessary. If you keep 'breeding dogs' then licences and business rates are mandatory. Certainly lots to think about though and I like your sheds, they are simlar to what I had envisaged here although I would have thought that the size of them does not require planning permission??? Unless you live in a conservation area??
I tried to ring the environmental health to ask questions today but the main person is on holiday for two weeks....so they told me to rang back Monday and speak to one of their officers. I hope youre right about the kennels.....we only use them as somewhere to put the malamutes when people come to the house or I need to clean the house or when they have marrow bones...the darn things wont sleep in them and make noise all night
I spoke to one of the officers at the environmental health dept today and I discussed the part of the form which said 'no cages'. I brought up the point that crates are used extensively in people's homes these days and said that if anyone were to board one of my dogs I would expect there to be a crate for her to call her own. And guess what.....the guy didnt even know what a 'crate' was

Absolutely take your point although I think I would require people to provide their own crates, where their dogs are used to them. I thought the same with their dog's food, potentially... off the top of my head. It makes sense to change as little of the dog's inherent routine as possible when they are away from home.
