Well, I took on board all the suggestions, and this morning I had a different dog! Shocked

I kept my mumbling mouth shut!! Wink

I sent him away, I didn't need to call him back, I crouched down.. and he held the dummy until my hand was on it, and he released straight away Smile I thought this might have been a fluke.. so repeated and repeated a few times.. I think he must have been picking up on my stress and my eagerness etc!!! So now I am completly chilled out! and he has changed, in just one session!

Going to the woods this afternoon, and will be taking the whistle, and see how we go there....

Will try and video us, so you can see the difference overnight! Smile

Thank you for mentioning me in your title, I think your question's been answered and I'm glad you have seen an improvement already. I must admit, I'm guilty of waffling far too much to Tau Embarassed and occasionally pounce on her in my enthusiasm to take whatever she's brought me back off her before she can spit it out.

Funnily enough, I've just been playing with her trying to reinforce her hold, just something I found on the floor, anything will do. I occasionally get her to wander round with a pair of socks, but make a game of trying to get to the object first and then just give her loads of praise for getting it and then eventually presenting it for me to take. She thinks its fab!!

1 step forward, 2 steps back..

Well our trip to the woods this afternoon wasn't as successful as this morning.. indoors, garden, was holding and bringing back to my hand.. out in the woods, he went off with enthusiasm, but did as per usual, which was pick it up, drop it half way, and come back to me.. so.. lots more work to do... but we are getting there... at least he has done it indoors/garden.. so loads more training yet.. but an improvement! Smile

As he showed little interest in the dummy this afternoon, I left it, as didn't want to push it.. he was clearly not interested, so we just did lots of recall to the whistle training, which he was brilliant! Came back everytime.. I went off, telling him to stay, wondered off out of sight, 3 pips and back.. we are still pretty fresh with the whistle, so at the moment I am still rewarding with treats.. BUT at the end, I just used praise, so weaning him off the treats, which I think is one of the reasons he drops the dummy and comes back to me.. getting his mouth ready for a treat! ha little bugger.. so.. treats are out me thinks!

Anyway, I would be too embarassed to put up the video I did of him NOT retrieving the dummy!! So here is a little video of the recall work instead! ha

No I don't have a dudd whistle Smile its just it was so close to the camera it couldn't handle the sound I don't think.. Confused
