  |
|
Little Trixie had a short life, she didn't manage to reach her first Birthday. She belonged to my next door neighbours, who happen to be 'Travellers'. Acquired by them as a puppy, Trixie was a dog of unknown origin - a x-breed of some sort, but no one ever knew exactly what. A small terrier type, long body, short legs, floppy ears, flat course coat of dark brown and ginger. Trixie was dragged up in a way that no dog should be, lived in the garden, slept in the garage, was pretty much ignored by the owners most of the time, and was routinely let out every day into the busy road (along with their other dog) to take herself for a walk. I and other neighbours protested vocally to the owners on many occasions that this was incredibly irresponsible and an accident waiting to happen...
Yesterday afternoon I was watching a dvd in the living room and heard Trixie barking outside. I looked out of the window and saw her chasing and barking at three girls walking up the road, who were shooing her away. The next thing I knew there was a screetch of car tyres and Trixie was lying dying in the road. I screamed and ran out into the street with my mum, by now there were several people at the scene. Trixie didn't die straight away, I actually saw her little tail wag a couple of times as she was lying on her side in the road dying (some sort of reflex action?). It was a shocking scene, something which I will remember for a very long time.
Whenever I saw Trixie out in the street, she would come running up to me, and loved me to make a fuss of her. I loved giving her a bit of attention because I knew she didn't get any at home.
Trixie - you had a short life, not a great life, but you didn't know any different. I hope you are in a nicer place now and that you didn't suffer too much yesterday. My mum and I have shed a huge amount of tears for you, which is more than can be said for the outrageously irresponsible owners, and I am shedding more now as I type this Many of these tears are anger induced tears, laced with sadness.
Bless you Trixie, you can run free over the bridge now

What very sad life she had, but at least you looked out for her.
Run free Trixie..... have fun at the bridge x
Home at last
The trees were blowing in the gentle breeze
the sun was shining; thru the leaves on the trees
The meadows are green; and the grass grows tall
off in the distance; you can see a waterfall
Over the falls; down through the creek
the water flows gently; as a rabbit sneaks a peek
Far up above; in the deep blue sky
the birds soar high; as they fly by
The animals play; at the bridge by the waterfall
chasing each other; and just having a ball
They play all day; from morning to night
there's no more rain; just warm sunlight
Off in the distance; the trumpets would blow
all would look up; and notice a bright glow
The harps would play; and the angels would sing
as another pet has come home; who had earned his wings

What a sad tale Poor Trixie. I hope the owners don't go out and get another, they don't sound fit to care for any animal
Run free Trixie. I will light a candle later for you.
