Hi Lesley
Can I ask how old Crumpet is coz he doesn't look that old. Also, have you had any hydrotheraphy treatment or ops yet. My Lily is only 7mths and whilst under a GA for a minor op, vet xrayed hips and we've been told they are severe. Had a cry - just my luck but I am surprised how many labs have it.

this test will say if the pup is carrying the gene that might make develope hd, but you don´t know if they really develope it, until you x ray them.
so a breeder tests all his puppies, keeps for himself the one with the good gene.
and the pup still can pass the hd, and what happens with the others....
for me it sound like frankenstein

Can you tell me how the test information will differ in any way from hip scoring? we already know with exceptionally careful management that dogs genetically pre-disposed to HD can be prevented from developing bad hips enabling them to get a low hip score - and that you cannot cause HD from Environmental factors alone if the predisposition is not there.
Surely any research that starts identifying and isolating these genes so that we have an extra indicator to hip scoring, or even, in the long term future, a much more accurate way of stopping our beloved breed randomly developing this condition, it has to be worth pursuing?
