I know this has been a hot topic recently.......and I have this to thank for bringing Skinners to my attention Wink

My Bailey has just turned 12 months and has been on Burns since we swapped her onto it when we got her home.....the breeder had been giving her Pets At Home Large Breed Puppy Food

Not going to lie, we are after something cheaper......it would really help our money situation......it's also helped the fact that Bailey seems to be going off her Burns a bit

She always gets her salmon or pilchards once or twice a week also Very Happy

I still think Burns is great.....Bailey has been great on it, although she is quite a slim lab.....just put that down to being a girly although a previous Burns thread has got me thinking a bit too

So.....I have been introduced to Skinners, and I went into my local pet shop who had the field & trial muslei one (or however it is spelt Embarassed ).....I've been on their website also and have emailed for samples Very Happy

I would appreciate some advice......which one's would be suitable for my Bailey.......what is the difference between this field & trial variety and normal skinners??

I went for the F&T Duck and Rice one, as it's ingredients and make up looked comparable to the JWB I was feeding. If you go onto their website have a look at all the ingredients lists and you can try to get one that is similar in make up to what she is already on.

Having said that, I have to feed more of the Skinners than I used to the JWB because Mojo keeps losing weight on it but I've heard lots of other people say that their dogs have put weight on with this one, so maybe I just have an odd dog Wink .

I think the field and trial is the equivalent of the Active version of Burns... for working dogs kinda thing. Pasco is on the Field and Trial Puppy and the breeder feeds thhe salmon one I think to his bitches. I think we'll be switching Huds over to Skinners too just for easy ness once the pup is onto the adult food.

We feed F+T Duck and Rice. At only £17 a ag we are certainly happy with it.
Mac is constantly getting comments about his shiney coat Razz and has maintained his weight with no troubles.

His waste is regular and reduced than when he was on CSJ - very good Wink

We'll definately recommend it to anyone Very Happy

I'm a bit confused that the F&T say for working dogs Confused Only cos I don't work Bailey......unless you count having a mad half hour then flaking out in the hall working heehee Very Happy

I'm guessing this doesn't matter though Wink

The protein is slightly higher in the Muesli Mix than the burns she has been having but I don't see that as a bad thing......the Burns is 18.5% and the F&T Muesli is 21%

Guessing the Muesli mix is like a dry Muesli.....is that right?? Very Happy

its 'damp oily' is the best way I can describe it- I keep it in a big dustbin type container- even after a couple of weeks it still leaves a 'greasy feel' to your hands- I feed slightly less than it says on the bag too- depending on how much they run on their walks- 2 'feeds over the day with part used on the walk- add the odd egg and tin of mackerel.

I am a bit sad because I just cant feed the dogs the brown pellet sort all the time- I havent asked them how they feel about it though...... Rolling Eyes
