Just got in from a great training session with my momentarily perfect dog when he proceeded to poke his head around the bathroom door to check i was occupied in the shower before grabbing a pillow from my bed and doing a lap of honour bum tucking around the house. I think this was a gentle reminder he may always have a naughty puppy streak in him
It left me wondering about working dogs - are they always calm and biddable or do they ever have an off-the-wall go completely against the training moment?
Have yours ever snaffled sausage rolls from picnics? ran back to the car on a retrieve or humped a competitor in a line up? or something equally as embarrassing? (Basils only done the first of those three to date)
If so please dare to share as surely all the training in the world doesn't make even the best dog infallible?
I love all the videos and photos in this section of the forum but it all seems a bit beyond reach at times as your dogs just seem soooo obedient
I was trying to think but I'm far more often embarassing them than they me
For example had just completed a test on Sunday really nicely, with Deeds, at a competition. Strolled back to the waiting group, casually opened my deckchair, plonked down in it and the canvas gave way and I ended up hanging, arse down, with it competely folded up on me stuck solid!!!
Deeds shifted several steps to the right and tried to attach himself to someone else. Jade and Allan studied the horizon. Two more chivalrous individuals dashed to help but a pal yelled through his tears of laughter at my expense 'no! no! Leave her there, its FAR funnier, just let her hang!!!!!!'
I then had to carry a knackered chair and a bruised sense of pride for AGES! The rest of them had a field day for HOURS.

Last training group session she was an angel, until her first retrieve, she went straight to it, then legged it around the field showing all the other Flatcoats what she had, then up to the top of the field and sat in the long grass so we could just see her head poking out with her dummy in her mouth, and sat there for what felt like 5 whole minutes .....................she likes a laugh
