Hi All

I am very new to this showing lark and have only done one companion show with Evie - she came 4th and I was pleased with that. I thought that labs were able to stand 'free style' without putting their legs in position. We have been going to ring craft and one of the trainers asked me to straighten up her front legs in line with her shoulders.

Soooo... what should I be doing??? Does she need to be standing in a certain way??

Have a look here http://www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopict-42925.html

Can you get to shows to have a 'look' and observe other peeps standing their labs - and a champ show is a good place to watch all the different techniques!!

Edited to say: Also check out the Dog Show and Comp threads on here as there have recently been some members posting lovely pics of their newbies and I think they have received quite a bit of advice - so just absorb in a sponge-like manner.

Do not 'stack' your lab - best to train it to stand naturally using bait, your body position and certain words as you train them. Believe me, it will get easier, but as in my experience if your local ringcraft does not have lab people in it you will get the wrong advice Rolling Eyes Confused

Thanks for the advice - I have just been reading the threads about using food and standing.

I think you're right about not getting the right advise if there are no lab people at the club- I was amazed to find no lab there considering how popular they are - I might have to look for somewhere more 'labafied'!!

I have now at least managed to get her to be felt over by the 'judges' at ring craft as before last night she just thought is was for them to play with her!!! Laughing

She only a baby and still has lots to learn - and unfortunately for her so have I!

Thanks agian

Would love to know a sure fix for this, as this is our problem too Rolling Eyes I don't know enough "new" people to practice with Ruby. She will stand still for me, but hardly anyone else Confused If we can't knock this one on the head, we'll never be ready to enter obedience trials.
