Thank you so much everyone. Rusty will sit in his lovely little box next to his brother Jake. I chatter away to them madly whilst I dust 'their' shelf and apologise as I lift and tip them about to get to the back of it The three dogs I lost previous to them I scattered, but Jake and Rusty are waiting, a long time I hope, for their best mate and OLDER brother, Dylan, before we do that, so they can all run free and play together on the Downs again. (Dylan is looking at me as if to say - yeah, righto mum...I plan to make about 20 you know....!' And thank god, I say, because losing 3 old dogs in 18 months has been my worse nightmare to be honest. You stay muttering about the war Dyl, it keeps you young!)
Just musing, its wonderful and amazing how dogs accept death. Maybe there is a difference in taking them to the vets as opposed to them passing at home in sight of the other dogs, or in sensory range, but I've seen none. They seem to just react exactly the same as if Rusty had gone to stay at Auntie Trinas or something... not a flicker, not a pining look at his empty armchair, not a wobble.
Its *us* that just don't cope all that well, and to be honest, why the heck should we? They are amazing creatures and whilst we like to think we pull the strings, when it comes to the final final curtain, they have us putty in their paws and acting in a undignified way they would never even consider!
Night sweet man. And thanks to everyone.
