hi ,, indie has been on ;;BURNS; since she was 8 months old,, and i find that she has been great on it , up to yet,, , she is now 16 months,, i swapped indie onto burns as she was ,, just ;;bouncing off the walls ;;. even after 2 good walks a day ,she would sleep for about 30 mins then is up, running ,bringing her ball etc and carrys on nearly all day ,,lol,,and the food she was on was high in protein,28%,, so i thought after reading up on ,BURNS,,with only 18.5% protein,,it might make a difference, and she wouldnt be as hypo, ,lol, she is still the same ,,very spirited,,but ,BURNS ,seems to suit her,,hope you can get some more advice ,,!!

Interesting thread. I have fed Dibley and Willow Burns since they were puppies, well Willow still is.
Dibley is under size for a male labrador and we were really told off by our vet at one stage - at the time I ignored it but I'm not so sure now.
I am having trouble putting weight on Willow and have upped her food and always give lots of extra treats.
Finally recently Dibley has been having some real upset tums, including last night. I have put this down to stress but now I am wondering if I was right.
Trouble is I really thought I was doing the best for Dibley and Willow and now I don't know where to go for the best.

Hi Nic
Someone else suggested Arden ~Grange, I would second that suggestion, It is a high quality British food and their helpline is wonderful. I spoke to them about Neo and they were brilliant making suggestions as to what should be tested for and very realistic in what their food could and could not achieve. In the end Neo could not tolerate it, but I remain very impressed....
I am now feeding the baby on Purina Pro Plan which is also a good quality food. So you could look at that as well. The only reason he is not on ARden Grange is because the little horror did not like it and would not eat it....
He is now on the sensitive puppy which is salmon and rice and loves it, I think because the flavour is stronger.
But either food I reckon is good quality and both helplines seem to be very good
Let us know what you decide

Nic sorry was posting the above and got called away so I did not see your other post
Neo is indeed on Hills - he is on Hills ZD Ultra - incredibly expensive but for Neo worth it. At 13 months old he weighed less than 15kg today (and I am so thrilled about this!) he weighs 36 kg and is possibly marginally on the porky side so i have slightly reduced his food - I used to say that nothing and no one would make me put him on a diet!! My lovely vet (who is more local than the one who saved Neos life but who diagnosed the problem) knowing what we have been through says he is fine...
I looked at your two links that you posted above and the experiences of those two are scarily similar to Neo - I will never touch the stuff again and the advice dished out was obviously the same as I got.... I am still so angry that I ahve to avoid the Burns stand at dog shows and the like because if I went to speak to them I am sure I would be had up for assault!
And as for the vets! We could be here all night!! First vets thought I was neurotic then when the diarrhoea started did a fecal test and it was normal; then did not know what to do, leaving Neo getting worse and worse; when I refused their £4 a tin special food ( I was told to feed between 4 and 5 cans a day - imagine that cost!!) they refused to treat.
So off to vets 2 they did a blood test - with the attitude of why bother its a dog with diarrhoea and actually said why was I bothering because he was not emaciated....blood test results back low B12 (amongst others) and I was told to ignore it, I recall that becuase that was the only thing I was told and never got to see the results
Off to lovely Tim the life saver - only because I was going to try homeopathy because the situation was by then desperate and I did not trust conventional vets for some reason! Neo was treated conventionally and homeopathically - but Tim refused to do anything until he had done some tests (failed on the allergy front but I can forgive him that). Was furious at vet 2 as the low B12 indicated mal abospbtion - tested and then decided Neo could not digest properly...
Tim saved Neos life, Neo put on 5kg in the first month of treatment then we struggled to get him to 28 kg, Tim reckoned that was as good as it was going to get although Neo was still thin he was no longer skeletal...
Then we started again with the diarrhoea and as an emergency I went to a local vet - they forced me to agree to transfer to them before they would treat, They were a total disaster, rude uncaring did not do any tests jumped to conclusions (which were wrong) treated for those conclusions which meant Neo was treated inappropriately, made Neo worse and every time I said I was not happy humiliated me for having been through "just about every vet in the area" we eventually had a big falling out and I moved to where I am now.
They ahve been marvellous, their entire staff is lovely. George diagnosed Neo who since being diagnosed and properly treated has not looked back. I was told to expect 90% good as he will always find somethign he should not - and so far touch wood - we have a much better success rate than that.
I now know what the cause is, know what he is allergic to and that helps me with the tit bits what I give him and if he gets anything he should not and is ill i know why - so I don;t panic ...
It was a long haul but I am so glad we came through it - and to think that this was started by trying to feed the best food you could.....which is what it is beginning to sound like
If you want to chat PM me and I will give you my phone no - and do let us know what you decide and what you decide to feed....
As I said either ARden Grange or purina would be my first choices...
Good luck!

Thank you everyone for all your advice, and thank you Eve for sharing your story.
Burns are insisting that I reduce Joey's feed and won't give any suggestions as to why he is suddenly not happy on the food after 2 years which is totally unsatisfactory!
I have been told by the vets not to let him lose any more weight and by Burns that he only needs a thin covering of skin over his ribs! Having worked with dogs and with vets for a while now I'm going with my instinct and if my boy isn't happy neither am I!
Just waiting for my samples to arrive now.
