Morning Everyone,
Im having some issues with the Wainrights turkey and rice puppy food, codi SOMETIMES eats it, then othertimes she turns her nose up.
Codi is NOT a big eater, even being a lab, shes very slow and sometimes dosent want a whole portion.
Shes LOVES rice, pasta and any meats - is it worth feeding her food like that rather than the dog food or is a dry dog food that she likes the best way to go?
Any suggestions are most appreciated
Thanks

A lot of people feed their dog raw, and there are a lot of books etc around that can help.
I feed dry but that is because Neo has huge amounts of allergies that he needs to have food that he is not going to make him ill...
Bramble is on dry as a result currently Purina Pro Plan but his breeders fed raw and were really keen that I continued so it would def be possible for you to go down the natural feeding route. I can give you the info Brambles breeders gave me if this of interest
I also think that some of the people on here who feed raw will be along and they will be able to help more than I can...
If not and you want some help, PM me and I will ask Brambles breeder if you can phone her for some advice - she is very helpful

do you put a little water on top of Codis food?
Sometimes that helps sort of let out the smells as it were. It could be shes not as hungry? Maybe try smaller more often feeds? Whats your feeding schedule?

reading your post, do i assume you sometimes mix in or give her other foods along with her dried food??
its just that dogs aren't silly and if sometimes gets the nice meat or pasta in there, she will certainly start turning her nose up when its plain in the hope you'll add something.

she had a tummy bug a couple of weeks ago and the vet said to give her rice/pasta etc - so she got the taste for that then
Iv tried hot water in her food (then obviously letting it cool) it kind of makes a gravy - shes not interest in that
she sometimes eats it if theres cheese on it
I feed her 3 times a day, 6am, 12.30 and 6pm
its funny because, she was first on science plan (far too expensive and i was told that wainwrights and i think wellbeloved have similar ingredients), she ate that - little snob that she is hehe
i just didnt know if use feeding her stuff like rice and pasta with meats would be healthy for her or if it just best to stick to a dry food that she likes
thanks for all the help you guys

if you want to feed raw there are many threads on here but its alot of hard work to begin with i think to balance the diet and make sure they are getting all their nutrients at the right levels.
Is she gaining weight ok on the food she is on and are her poops fine?
if so i would give her a few days with just putting down here food (with nothing else on it/in it) and if she hasn't eaten within 10 mins or so, take up and remove it. Do the same at the next meal. Pups won;t starve themselves.
hope that helps.
if after that she's still not keen, then maybe switch to a different brand?

We feed our james wellbeloved and change the flavour each time we get a new sack.
Can you get differant flavours in wainwrights if so maybe change the flavours from time to time
We also give ours tinned fish in with the dried food a couple of days a week.
We have never had any problems of the food not being eaten.
O yes if your dog does not eat its food when you feed it take it away and not leave it down, they soon learn to eat it when you feed them or they go without

you do need to be careful and don't be beguiled by those oh so sorrowful labby eyes! The more you pander to her, the fussier she will get!!! This includes adding cheese to her dinner!!! Like Sam said, if she is hungry enough she will eat it! Don't get focused on her eating every meal. If she doesn't eat anything (including treats!) for more than 24 hours then be more concerned.
