There is only one thing giving dogs a shiny coat and that is fat.
Fat can be added to a dogs diet through his food or it can be added separately.

I've found that a drizzle of olive oil in Polly's food every day makes a huge difference to her coat. I have stopped it for a while and the coat goes back to "normal" then, as soon as I add the olive oil her coat goes very soft and glossy within a couple of days. Sounds to me that all the different suggestions for glossy coats stem from "oily" something!
