i switched to a shedding blade 6 months ago they look pretty savage but once uve had a quick go with it. if u back comb them with it i can fill the hoover bag with it. and suprisingly the dogs will lay there wagging their tales begging for more the rougher i back comb the more they like it then just finish off with a slicker to get the ones left on top

Herbie is coming to the end of his spring fur shedding now and I just couldn't believe the amount of fur I have extracted using the slicker brush Shocked ! I wish I had saved all the fur and had it spun and made into a couple of jumpers Laughing Wink

The slicker brush I bought has little plastic blobs on the end of the pins - it's for sensitive dogs. Herbie is not particularly fond of being groomed and I thought that the slicker brush with the plastic blobs on the end of the pins would be less scratchy.

I'll have to get one of these slicker thingies then.

At the moment it seems that Shen is moulting all year round. He usually has a nice groom from a wonderful lady once a month to keep him looking nice, but we haven't been able to send him since we moved and we're all suffering.

Hi SeaThreePeeO,

Just as a matter of interest what did the ladys monthly groom consist of?.... was it just brushing etc, or was there any trimming involved?

It isn't possible really to overgroom a dog, I do try to groom mine everyday where possible. It does help with the big moult time.

You don't need to overgroom them, but grooming does also give you a chance to give them a good check over as well.

Interesting, we were advised not to overgroom our dogs by a gun dog handler at a game fair. Someone approached us with a metal comb thing, no teeth but just a zig zag and it pretty much stripped the under coat off Indie who has a very thick coat. We weren't going to buy the comb anyway, but this chap approached us and told us we'd be better off with a normal brush and comb, as these don't strip out too much of the undercoat, he was quite taken with Indie otherwise I don't think he'd have said anything.
