Herbie is going through his spring moult at the moment and depositing his winter thick soft undercoat all over the carpet where he lays! In the past, I have used different types of comb and a brush to get the loose hair out and watch it waft around in clumps around the garden for the birds to line their nests with! The vacuum cleaner would be kept very busy sucking up the shed fur from our carpets! Thankfully, they only moult twice a year . How many of you have pulled the loose tufts of fur that poke out from their coat? It's like plucking a chicken!
Anyway, while I was at Pets At Home today, I had a look for something to help remove his loose undercoat. I bought a slicker brush (for sensitive skins), which has little plastic heads on the ends of the pins. Wow, the amount of undercoat the slicker brush removed was absolutely amazing! In just one grooming session, I got enough fur to make a jumper I think! I can definitely recommend a slicker brush.

I didn't know it was possible to over groom a lab. How often should they be brushed?
I brush Alfie every couple of days and his hair comes out in handfuls.

It isn't possible really to overgroom a dog, I do try to groom mine everyday where possible. It does help with the big moult time.
You don't need to overgroom them, but grooming does also give you a chance to give them a good check over as well.
