I was rather taken aback how many dogs are in my ownership when I called about a year ago to update my judging CV as one question is 'how many dogs are registered in the Kennel Club in your name?' I don't recall but it was around the 17 / 20 mark. But then I suppose thats not too bad considering I've lost old dogs and they stay on, have sold on some between 6 and 14 months of age without papers so they are not bred from (hopefully) so they stay, and have had, what, 14 litters.... so thats only a few who haven't transfered... but it was still a bit of a shocker when I called thinking nievely there would only be my current dogs Forgot how they build up!

Yep - it is not that uncommon - particularly if they have gone to pet homes - unfortunately there is no law that says they MUST transfer and some may feel, if they are not going to be worked / shown etc, then knowing they are registered is sufficient - and they just don't feel spending the £12 is justified (even though they may have spent anything up to £600+ to get the pup.
I also am guilty of non transference...however the difference being I'd have no problem parting with my money to the breeder but....the £12 is payable to the KC and for that reason alone I wouldn't bother transferring a pet.
Not starting a big debate or anything Sally but what do you dislike so much about the KC - or is it that they don't insist on health testing to register puppies?

I did not say I dislike the KC.. I merely said that I wouldn't pay £12 to them to transfer ownership of a puppy that was to be solely a pet. They have already received £12 by the breeder to register the puppy with all the details necessary..personally I think a transfer should be included within the registration.
Ok, thanks Sally... they do charge a bit over the odds for minor paperwork alterations! Just changed one name on my affix ownership and got charged £45 for the pleasure! I didn't even ask for a new certificate! Mind you I think that has got cheaper because when I took my fiurst husband off the affix in about 2000 I think it was nearer £70.... can't quite recall but recall it was extortinate then...

That is a scandal. One thing I discovered about registered kennel names annoyed me no end. £70 to register then an annual fee to keep it of £20!!! That is a complete ripoff. In cats a registered name is for life, no annual fee's. Ooops sorry apologies to Jill for going off topic.
