I have just got a quote online from AXA (wanting to move from M+S) and everything seemed OK. However I thought I would check by phone on several things and I am glad that I did. If anyone has took out this insurance were you told that the excess is £50 PLUS 15% OF THE CLAIM IF IT IS OVER £500. Think I'll keep looking

Linda

THANKS for pointing that out - I was JUST about to switch to AXA from M&S, but don't want the 15% exclusion, so am going to stay put.

Couldn't find anything on the website quote about the 15%, but indeed, when I called up, prompted by your email, they confirmed it was the case...

Very useful to know - ta.

Vicky

If they are not stating the 15% on their website then they are selling a product by misrepresentation. Dont know who the governing body of insurers is, but if you can find out get in touch and let them know about this!

Is that 15% on any claim over that amount? Shocked Not just for when a dog reaches a certain age?

I did an online quote with AXA not long ago to see how things compared and I don't recall seeing that mentioned either!

Thanks Linda for this information. I was just about to take out a policy with Axa but after reading your post I decided to read the whole policy. The excess isn't even mentioned in the whole of their policy booklet so those taking the policy out over the internet would be completely oblivious to this fact until I presume they received the insurance schedule. I then phoned the company to be told that I was right about it only being 50 pounds excess but then as an afterthought he mentioned that if the claim went over 500 pounds it would be £50 plus 15% of the claim.
I think this kind of selling is absolutely disgusting, I want to take out pet insurance to stop me having to find large amounts of cash for unexpected vet bills. This is a for life insurance scheme and if the worst happened and the vets bill was at the limit of the policy (£7000) then I would need to find over £1000 myself.
Why are insurance companies allowed to hide this kind of information?
Rant over.......and breathe.

Hi.After the phone call I made to AXA yesterday about the excess. I have sat and read the whole policy booklet this morning. I found the bit that said the excess was £50 but their is nothing about the 15%. So I have just rung them again, and queried it again and told them there is nothing in the policy. The lady was very nice and went off to check with her colleagues and then told me that wasn't the case and you only pay the £50 or £70 excess (through out the life of the insurance) which ever you choose. I did tell her that they could loose a lot of custom giving the wrong information out. She did ask, if I new the name of the man that I spoke to she could sort the matter out. I never got his name so I suppose thats the end of the matter.

Linda

When I called to check this morning, it was a woman, not a man, who told me that there was the 15% exclusion... so it seems they have more than one confused member of staff...

I have just spoken to Axa (15:50 hrs.) and I have been told by a man called Asad after speaking with colleagues that there is a 15% excess on claims over £500.
I have been looking elsewhere and a good quote has come from the HSBC. Its under written by Norwich union and administered by Petpartners. Its a life cover policy of £7500 a year with an excess of £75.
I'm off to read the small print

I too rang AXA 2 days ago and spoke to a very nice gentleman called Alan - he too stated the excess plus 15% for any claim over £500 - i asked him to clarify it at the time as i told him it made their quote no longer competitive - he went off and checked and came back stating that it was certainly the case Rolling Eyes

Having done a lot of research i have decided to stay with M&S - they did reduce their policy for Bailey this year by 20% so although i now have an excess with them i am saving money on a monthly basis.

I have been looking into AXA policies and had a quote so I just phoned them to check this - the lady I spoke to told me the 15% only applies to claims for dogs over 9 yrs (which is standard policy for many pet insurance companies I think). I double checked with her about the 15% for policies over £500 and she said definitely not, only if the dog is over 9 yrs of age.

Sounds as though someone at the company is giving out the wrong info - hopefully they will rectify this and ensure all staff are passing out correct info!
