I don't use the canny collar very often - usually only on GTs when Pud is so overexcited that nothing works but i am trying to get him used to it for when i go away in February.

He hates it with a passion! Tries to scrape his nose along the ground, rubs his head against my leg and takes both front paws off the ground and desperately tries to scratch it off. When he realises that none of this is working he will walk well with it.

His latest trick is stopping dead and refusing to walk so i am practically dragging him along. One evening last week we walked up to PAH, it's approx 40 mins away along 2 quite busy roads and crossing 2 main dual carriage ways that feed on to the motorway. I've never used a double ended lead and have assumed that the canny was pretty secure - until I was half jogging encouraging pud to keep moving with me and felt the lead go limp Shocked Shocked Pud couldn't believe his luck and skipped off down the road and then crossed over. I massively panicked and went from calling him back with his usual 'happy' recall to screaming at him to come back. He just looked really bemused like he couldn't understand why i would let him off and 2 seconds later be calling him back. He did come back and we bought a double ended lead whilst at PAH!

Possibly my scariest moment since having Pud, thankfully a man walking towards us held up the traffic and i was able to recall him pretty quickly. But a warning to others with canny collars be extra careful x

Shocked Shocked Shocked Oh my Leanne, what a heart in the mouth moment.

Thank goodness the man was quick thinking, stooping the traffic for you.

Blimey, that must have been so scary for you. I'm very glad the man was there to help with the traffic! Have had to do that a few times before for other dogs!

Hope you are feeling a bit calmer now. Very glad all was ok.

OMG how awful!

For what it is worth, the dopgmatic ones are much better than any other head collar - I have just got two for mine after the other head collars breaking!

Also they have come first in recent reviews when tested against ones like the canny and the halti etc:

Hi Marie, yes they are much better IMHO. Indi has chewed through 2 headcollars in two months so I ordered these.

They fit more securely but you have to make sure you get the correct size. If you contact them they tell you where to measure and will advise on size before you buy.

If it still is not right they will take it back and exchange it for you. I ordered the padded webbing for mine as I figured they would be much easier to clean.

OMG Leanne, that's so scary, on a main road and all!!!
Did he get the actual neck-collar part of it off over his ears??
Scary scary stuff!
Good idea about the double-ender, Ozzie's main lead is a double ender but we rarely use it as intended and still just clip it into his canny and nothing on his regular collar.

If it helps any, as you know Oz does the exact same scraping his head on the ground until he bleeds in an attempt to get the nose noose off... but Charlie has been walking him on his Canny every day and he's stopped doing it now yay! He still gets really depressed and slumps his shoulders and his body language tells you he hates you with a passion when you bring it out, but at least he walks perfectly on it now.

Hugs to you both, see you next weekend maybe!!!

PS hope the airport trip this morning wasn't too traumatic, been thinking of you!!

Ness xoxo
