Poor Stanley has had an upset tummy for a few days now. He seems fine in himself, is full of his usual energy, but had the terrible 'runs' a couple of nights on the trot. He had me out of bed to let him in the garden every few hours on Wednesday and Thursday nights (he was such a good boy for waking me up to tell me he needed to go out!). There are 4 different locks on our patio door and it seemed to take forever to unlock all of them while I was still half asleep, while Stanley was looking up at me with a "hurry up, mum!" look on his face!
I rang the vet yesterday and he said to starve him for 24 hours and then give him some chicken and rice. After 24 hours of looking quietly hungry and a bit outraged that his usual meal times, passed without event, Stanley was very happy to woof down some chicken and rice at lunchtime today! His last runny/watery poo was around 2:30am last night and there has been no more 'runs' today (but there again he hadn't eaten for 24 hours). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the 24 hour fast has done the trick.
I don't know what might have caused this upset stomach as he never usually suffers with his belly. Has anyone had a similar experience recently? I'll pop Stanley to the vet early next week, if things don't improve.

awwwwwww hope stanley is feeling better soon triona, zak often gets an upset tum, and has the runs for a couple of days, although like stanley he is fine in himself, i usually put it down to him eating something he shouldnt when out in the fields, we starve him for a day and then give him pasta and scrambled eggs or rice with chicken this usually does the trick, but it should only last a couple of days so if it does continue you do right to pop along to the vets,

I can only say the same thing. Keep him on chicken and rice. It has worked for Gixer. He is always picking up things that he shouldn't, and therefore he gets chicken and rice quite often. Hope things get better soon for you

I did catch him drinking water from a dirty old brook in our local park last weekend. I usually steer him clear of the brook, but he sneaked in it on this occasion and came out stinking. Also, the other day he picked up a manky Philadelphia spread carton in the park, and had it wedged in his mouth for a while, until I got it off him. It wasn't until I got it off him, that I noticed the tub had a lot of horrible green mould in it

I think Stanley will be quite happy for the chicken and rice to continue for the foreseeable future. I don't think the JWB is going to look quite so appetising after today

well there you go two likely contenders for an upset tum, these labs are there own worse enemies when it comes to eating stuff they shouldnt and zak does the same he drinks manky water while we are out even though i carry a bottle of fresh for him he still prefers to take sneaky slurps of the dirty stuff

Would scrambled egg do the same job in settling his stomach, as something like chicken with rice? I might try Stanley with some scambled eggs in the morning, if this is the case.

Alfie has had an upset tum over the last week - wouldn't eat his breakfast last Friday (unheard of), then was sick, then had diarohea. He then had a very odd pattern of poos - nothing at all for 24 hours, then violent diahorea again. He seemed fine in himself, but it took until Thursday for him to be back to normal in the toilet department.
He almost certainly caught it from my daughter, who returned from a holiday in Majorca with a tummy bug...which she passed on to my husband and son as well. They were all ill for about six days too. Thankfully I seem to have escaped it. The vet said it could be campylobacter, which can be transferred between humans and dogs.
I've never washed my hands as much as in the last couple of weeks!
