Ruby had her elbows and hips xrayed, but not scored, last week when she was spayed. The vet said that her elbows look fine, even though we have had a couple of episodes of lameness recently. She said her hips are ok, not brilliant but ok.
Am I right in thinking that as she is only just coming up 1 there is always the possibility of something developing later on, particularly if her hips are not that perfect now ???

We own three Labradors at the moment, of which two are still living with us and one is retired living with my mom and dad.

- Tsarodej Sweet Ginny d.o.b. 4.8.2000, chocolate bitch hips B/B and elbows 1/1. Sini is having problems with both elbows and hips. Hips were inofficially re-x-rayed at the age of six and they had gone a lot worse, probably D/D and with a little bit dysplasia. On top of joint problems, her health has been miserable all her life, but that is another story. She can be found in the Finnish Dog Database in here: http://jalostus.kennelliitto.fi/frmKoira.aspx?RekNo=FIN40712/00&R=122

- Jummi-Jammin Sonata Arctica d.o.b. 7.1.2005, black bitch hips A/A and elbows 0/0. Never had any problems with her joints, excellent mover in supercondition. Sona can be found in here: http://jalostus.kennelliitto.fi/frmKoira.aspx?RekNo=FIN12375/05&R=122

- Sangfagelns Musetta d.o.b. 27.2.2007, fox-red bitch hips B/C and 0/0 elbows. Never had any problems either, is like a kangaroo, superfast mover. Sadly Kettu's other hip is slightly loose and of course, she is the only one of eight puppies having a bit loose hip, all the others are also x-rayed and with completely perfect results both elbows and hips. She can be found here: http://jalostus.kennelliitto.fi/frmKoira.aspx?RekNo=FIN47598/07&R=122

I have a yellow dog with neither condition - no problems so far
I have a black dog with neither condition - his hips have been 'checked' and are fine.

My yellow Lab Barney is now just over 1 year old and he unfortunately has OCD. He was diagnosed when he was just 5 months old and had the OATS procecedure on one knee and a general cartiledge removal on the other when he was 7 months old. He is now broadly ok, but if he overdoes it then he suffers which is heartbreaking to see. His parents had 0-0 elbow scores and very low hip scores and so it is really a case of bad luck, but it goes to show you can never be too sure.

Max has OCD, he's had operations on both shoulders which both went well. He's not on any medication for it now and is doing fine.
