Well, money where the mouth is time.
Having posted earlier on the main GT thread started by Linzi, I mentioned sorting out something "down south"
I will be going camping in the New Forest 26th/27th July. This is the first weekend of the summer holdays and at the moment it is just me and Jet. If anyone would care to join us I can get the ball rolling for some pitches next to each other.
I will be going to Hollands wood Forestry commision campsite, near Brockenhurst here's the link
They haven't put their 2008 prices up yet I'll add them to this post as soon as I find out. But to give you an idea it was £17.50 per pitch last year during high season
OOoh this sounds quite interesting although I have never been camping before and don't know where to start really. I bought a small tent from Asda last year (3man) for me and the 2 younger boys but it has stayed in its bag. Don't have any other stuff though.
Can anyone give me a pointer as to what I would actually need and would it be ok for my 8 and 10 year old to come too?
It might be just a bit cosy in a 3 man tent with you, 2 children and Pheonix, but all are welcome.
I'm going with just me and Jet, as my children are old enough for me to escape from them for a while and leave them at home for some "quality time" with their Dad
As far as camping gear is concerned, as an absolute minimum, you'll need your tent, soemthing to sleep on and under/in, a light or torch, clothes, wash kit, and anything your dog needs in the way of food, water bowl, bed, blankets, long lead, and a tie out stake comes in very handy.
That's the bare basics, as far as eating for yourself, it's easy enough to survive a weekend on buying what you need in the way of food, as you go along. take aways, sandwiches and the like, but it can get pricey with children in tow.
Next to the basics you can start to add camping chairs, primus stove, kettle, cups, plates and wheatever endless list you want to..... , there was some talk before last years' GT about hair straighteners and make up, the skys the limit, as long as your car is big enough
Well I ll have a 4 week old baby then but I ve got a caravan near Ferndown so would it be ok to meet up and say Hello for half an hour ........ ( I dont know if Pepsi can be there if its hot we ll see )
