curious why people sort of make quirky references when relatives turn up on both sides of a pedigree - Diana has written about this comprehensively and it is done by design, i.e. line breeding.
When mating Hally, I deliberately went out to find a stud dog that brought back her lines from 5th generation and beyond - on paper Hope et als pedigrees look like virtual outcrosses - but they are nowhere near - and outcrosses (no relatives in common) in our breed (and probably most others) are as rare as hens teeth 
If you trace your dogs back far enough, you will find that they ALL come from a very small pool consisting of just a few (and the same) dogs
Even where dogs are closely linebred - if you do a comparison to some of the great champions of days gone by, you will find that statistically, the inbreeding COI's are much lower than they were 20 / 30 years ago
Hope is related through Stormley Craftsman At Ludzska back, and probably quite a few more
