Brentwood is fine if I take Phoenix on a few car trips first to make sure she is okay with travelling. Furthest she has been is half an hour to my parents but she was sitting with my son.
I have a friend that lives at Hutton, Brentwood so am used to that journey.
It would be great to meet up with you Debbie... Neo would love the company - someone to run riot with!
I am probably going over to brentwood next about the middle of Jan - as next weekend is puppy weekend (me excited? Whatever gave you THAT idea!) so we could meet up for a bit then if you like..
Re car journeys it is probably best to take her on short journeys regularly to get her used to being in the car.. Neo was taken to and from work every day so it never was an issue for him. I work about 5 mins from home and we would have to come home at lunch time for him to go to the toilet so he would have 4 journeys a day and added to that we would go over to Brentwood regularly so he has always been fine about travelling
How do you travel with him in the car? I can put her in her crate but as it is quite large and she is quite small I think she will get thrown around a bit. Usually she sits on my 17 year old sons lap, I haven't taken her in the car on my own.
Basically there are a couple of choices - I would not advocate leaving her on the back seat loose because that is dangerous both for her and the human occupants of the car.
I used to put Sam and neo in the boot of the car and that worked brilliantly well, they got used to the cars movement very quickly and without problem and loved sitting in the back with their heads resting over the back seat.
Then i got given a lecture by a friend who works in insurance who ttold me taht this was very dangerous and that in the event of an accident the dog (by then I had lost Sam) could get thrown over the seat and would kill not only himself but all the other occupants of the car as well...
She recommended getting a car harness as being the safest, so that is what I did. Neo wears a car harness and sits on the back seat. he aboslutely loves it. He has enough room to move but is restrained so it is safe.
I get my car harnesses from www.petsbitsonline.co.uk . This is a website run by a very lovely and helpful lady who makes the harnesses to measure, Neo's is a wonderful fit. I love the way you put them on so much easier than the ones where you ahve to faff around getting them to lift legs and so on - these just go over the head and then they are on, to fasten them you fasten around the waist, but if the dog moves the harness stays on - so the frustration factor is that much less.
Terry is making me one for the baby now and she is putting in extra growth room for him. she really is wonderfully kind and helpful and I think the harnesses are a reasonable price even without allowing for the fact they are hand made. She promised me that she would make it today (31 dec (just)) so that I would be guaranteed delivery by the time I collect Finbar
the other thing you can do is to put up the metal barriers....but that works out quite expensive
Oh YAY! vicky I would be so delighted to meet you and Ruby - and Neo would be delighted to demonstrate his own brand of bum tuck!!!!
Claire and I met at WEald Park which is great for me as it is about 10 mins away from my dad - so we met early and then I went down to Dads so it worked really well (apart from the monsoon that unleashed itself upon our arrival, but we'll gloss over that one....! )
It is also a great place for the doggies - the downside is that you ahve to pay for the parking these days
So how about it then? GT WEald Park say 13 January at about 11.00 (yuck!) it is at least an hour and half drive for me....
Can't easily do next week - baby collecting!!!! YAY!!!
