I am hoping to adopt two dutch bunnies and i am wondering if Archie would be ok with them,I have a 9 year old rabbit and Archie is very gentle with her because she is old but these two are a year from a rescue centre.Going to see them today or tomorrow, waiting for them to call me back and see when they are going to visit my home
Does anyone have any idea of what kind of hutch is needed,i have seen quite big hutches on ebay and even considering a chicken house/rabbit house on ebay. Thanks
I dont know about Archie getting jealous of the new rabbits as we only got our Jack 2 days ago so he hasnt really seen them much, and they were here before him so its a bit different.
We did have a hutch from Happyhutch and found them a good size unlike some of the pet shops poor excuses!.
awwww Dutches are lovely bunnies, what colour are they?
The last rabbit BJ came across, is no more. One of his naughtier episodes, as I tried to call him back, he was vanishing across the field with two bunny back legs jutting out of his mouth.
This was a wild rabbit mind you, I don't know what he's be like with a pet.
That rabbit house with attached run looks wonderful by the way.
I`d keep the bunnies in their cages/runs whilst Archie is about with them, that way they can look at each other through the wire and Archie can get used to the new ones being there.
He must be used to you caring for the older one now?, looking after a couple more isn`t going to take much longer, let him watch from the outside whilst your cleaning them out etc, Labs are`nt generally the jealous type I don`t think and I don`t see any major problems as long as your careful
Those sheds look really great and are fab if you can fit one in your garden. Shop around as the pet shop hutches are generally much too small. The RSPCA have guidelines for hutch space for buns, they're a good guide to start with but the bigger the better.
I'd be careful when Archie meets them as the new ones may be quite quick on their paws compared to your older bun and the quick movement tends to prompt a chase instinct (if he's that way inclined) so make sure the buns have space to get away from Archie safely. Over time they'll probably be just fine together.
My two rabbits are very skitty and ALWAYS bolt when they see the dog but as dogs come and go in this house they never really get used to any one pooch. My neighbour had a Lab and a bunny and they got on really well together, I know others on here have bunnys who rule the roost.
Good luck with them, Dutch buns are soooo sweet. Can't wait to see some pics when you get them
I have a rabbit that lives indoors and he interacts with Kyra and Luna no problem. I would say if Archie is used to the one you already have he should know how to be around them even though duch bunnies are huge! hehe
Make sure you post photos!
I know others on here have bunnys who rule the roost.
That'll be my Bunnies .
As Liz said, the new Buns will be a bit skittish and lively to begin with and Archie may find himself wanting to chase them but he will get used to them with time and they will him.
As an aside, my dogs still chase Wild Buns if they get the chance...and I don't think the intention is to give them a quick sniff, if you see what I mean ..... but our own Buns are treated with great respect by the dogs...weird huh.
