Thought it might be interesting to know what books either lab related or general everyone has in their bookcase? Recommend them or not? I'll go first.

ALL ABOUT THE LABRADOR - Mary Roslin-Williams
General lab book quite interesting.
REACHING FOR THE STARS - Mary Roslin-Williams
Love this book really interesting if you intend showing or breeding.
BOOK OF THE BITCH - J.M. Evans & Kay White
Only just started this one and seems quite useful
SHOW ME! - D. Caroline Coile
As title suggests about showing. American author but an interesting and informative read.
LABRADOR RETRIEVERS TODAY - Carole Coode
Haven't read it yet as just got it.

I am rather proud of my first edition Dual Purpose Labrador, and Advanced Labrador Breeding - both by MRW. (swank, swagger.... to give you an idea managed to get hold of 2nd and 3rd editions of the same books about 3 years ago and flogged them on ebay for £85 and £132 respectively! Drank Chablais instead of Chardonnay for a month! Wink )

Also like/adore or would highly recommend variously amongst the zillions on the bookcase:

The Hidden Life of Dogs - Elizabeth Marshall Thomas (AutoBiography & behavioural)

Dog Breeding for Quality & Soundness - Jean Gould

Legends in labradors - Nancy Martin

Retriever Training - Susan Scales

Good Judgement - Peggy Grayson

The Labrador Retriever - Lorna Countess Howe and Geoffrey Waring

But I could go on and on (as I do.....)

Di

Funnily enough I was thinking of Emma and I and the rest of them - I think they influenced me starting in chocolates more than any worthier 'good of the breed' type reason! I wanted an Emma! Wink

Emmmm---- I didn't put THAT in the Shooting Times article... ha ha ha ha!!

I have never counted, but there are four shelves full - covering, Labs, spaniels and any other breed that took my fancy, I like Di, like to collect 1st editions and have almost all of the "gundog" books written in 1st editions now Laughing

Oh I have Retriever Training by Susan Scales too. I must admit I'm not keen on a lot of the Gundog Training books. I tend to think they are a bit of a waste of money but I always recommend this book to people who are just starting out (I hope its still being printed Shocked ).

Ooooh quite a few of the above! Book of the Bitch and The Whelping and Rearing of Puppies have been invaluable. Marley and Me made me laugh and cry.

One that hasn't been listed yet but I do recommend is Living with a Labrador Retriever by Jo Coulson. A good comprehensive overview of our breed. Molly's father and aunt are on the front cover! Very Happy
