I have no idea!
Maybe the rainwater has a nicer/more appealing smell???
I would be interested if anyone knows the answer to this...

We have two labs and our bitch has to be coaxed to drink. However if she wanders into the bathroom and I am washing my hands she jumps up and licks water from my hands or the tap. The only time she is "slightly interested" is just after a walk but we still have to coax her!!!!
We haven't worked out what it is because her brother drinks all around him. HOpe somebody can throw some light on it. Good luck.

My parents used to have a lab that preferred to drink the rain water to tap water.

She really confuses me she was panting heavily tonight desperate for a drink but wouldn't touch her water bowl It has been dry here today/nigh so she couldn't get a drink from outside either eventually she went to her water bowl but only took enough to wet her lips!! Mabye i should sit a great big bucket out and collect the rain for her myself

Max doesn't drink tap water either. He has the odd cup of tea but usually prefers his buckets outside which I leave out to fill. Worried me a first but I just accept it's the way he is

I suppose it could be a few different reasons perhaps she doesn't like the bowl you use maybe her tag clinks on it and it frightens her? maybe your tap water is heavily chlorinated and she just can't take the smell/taste? Maybe there is no explanation lol If I were you I would leave a bowl outside to collect rain water and let her drink from it as much as she wants to make sure she is getting enough liquid.

We are taking possession of our first Lab at the start of March, and I was browsing through the forums, looking for housing tips, and found this thread and luckily, i know the answer
Its the Fluorine in the tap water that the dogs don't like. Due to the natural evaporation/water cycle processes, most of the Fluorine that is put in by the water companies is lost by the time it comes back down to earth as rain water. Its not just dogs either, cats love rainwater (mine did, even though it was in a rusty old BBQ )
Hope thats some help
Ben
