well last night was our 3rd night at the positve paws puppy school
we havent really learnt anything new YET (im sure we will) - but codi is a bit of a nightmare at the classes, all she wants to do is get to the other dogs, to play obviously...
im hoping we're going to learn some more things soon, the thing i really want codi to do are not to jump on people and to actually come when i shout on her
Also - on the last night of training, its a puppy party - and the trainer wants everyones dog to have learnt a trick, no paws allowed! Codi does roll over, but i would really like to get her to do something cool, so im hoping someone has some ideas......
I'll give another update on the classes

For the trick - Basil does a play dead (to the command bang! and a hand sginal like a gun)
It's similar to teaching roll over only they dont have to roll the whole way just lie still on their side with head on the floor until released.
(it also has a practical use for lying on the vets table )
Or you could teach jump through a hoop that's quite easy

What about a creep or a bow?
The creep I taught with the dog in a down and holding a treat in my hand on the floor about four inches away (if the pup gets up have the treat closer). I encouraged them to belly crawl towards the treat - an inch or two at first is fine. Then start applying the command. One of my dogs was fine, the other I had to gently hold her bum down because she kept going into the bow!
This has quite a few applications, not least is when they plonk themselves in the middle of the sofa and I'd quite like to have a seat!
I taught the bow with dog in the stand, me standing/kneeling in front of dog, with reward in hand. Move both hands in towards dogs front paws (above paws) while saying "bow". As dog extends head down for treat in a bow position, reward. I'm sure your pup will do this action naturally, it's just a case of channelling what they do.
I use this one as a stretching exercise before they do agility.

We taught a weave for Ozzie's party trick at puppy school, hubby taught him to weave through his legs. We did this with clicker and treats, using the treats to guide his nose to where we wanted his body to follow
Sorry, have a great book on tricks which is where we learnt it from, but all my books are in storage at the moment so I can't give you the step by step guide.
Sounds like all is going well at puppy school!

thats a good idea too, im really going to have to choose one and get working on it
when i give codi a cuddle i always say "bosie" so yday, i patted my shoulders and said it and she put her paws up on my shoulders, it was really cute, but im not sure if she just jumped on me or she actually knew what i was trying to do haha
i think i might give the creeping one a go and then maybe add a bosie on at the end
The trainer was saying the more you teach your puppy the more they learn and more advanced they are - so we'll see how it goes
its funny because we're learning loose lead walking just now, but codi is far better behaved OFF the lead, she stays right beside us when we're walking and comes when we shout to her when she trails behind
oh and we got a little taste of river water the other week - it was hilarious, it was only shallow but she was trying to step onto the water, super cute
