HI
new on here but after reading some of the posts i think ill be a regular
would like to know if theres many green eyed labs like my marty and what are the rules for showing them
Hi and welcome to you and Marty, he`s a handsome lad, he doesn`t look like he has green eyes in the pic, I don`t think they`d be desirable in the showring, think eye colour is down as dark brown which you find in most Blacks and Yellows and hazel which is usually found in Chocs.
One of the members who shows will know for sure though
Hi and welcome to LF as a relative newcomer to the showring, I can only give my interpretation in relation to the ring and the breed standard; I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong
Eyes should be brown or hazel - in terms of rules, providing your boy is KC registered, then in theory there is nothing to stop you showing him.
In terms of his appearance, he needs to be standing to get an overall perspective, from what I can see (and it may be a trick of the camera which can make photographs deceptive) he looks quite tall.
FOR ME, his eyes are light, and that can change the desirable expression considerably; I have a chocolate girl with light(ish) hazel eyes which FOR ME are too light. I also have her daughter - facially they are like two peas in a pod, but the darker eye colour on the daughter changes the overall impression quite dramtically - so much so, I probably wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it first hand in my own dogs.
That said, there are over many conformation points to look at, and a lab is more than a set of eyes; I would imagine if you were up against a dog of similar quality, and their eye colour was correct, then it is likely to be chosen for the place over yours.
In reality, the only real way you will find out, is, if you can, getting someone with a lot of showing (and possibly judging) experience to go over him and give you a honest opinion & critique and / or trying him out in the showring and seeing how he gets on.
If he has been neutered, then you are required to notify the Kennel Club before doing so, although as I understand it, you no longer require permission to do so
I've no intention of ever showing him, but it has been mentioned a couple times that its not the standard. I think he is as handsome as all get go! [/img]
