Hi
Barney is on NatureDiet and loves it - he's 12 weeks old. Yesterday lunchtime, for the first time, he didn't eat all his dinner. It was taken up and was given it for tea - and had to be coaxed into eating. Last feed (on 4 a day), wasn't particularly interested.
I've got up this morning - Barney is running around like a mad thing as usual. He had a bit of a coughing fit and bought up some bile (did he just get over-excited?). I gave him his breakfast, he seemed really excitied, running into the kitchen and somesaulting until I put the bowl down - as usual - then had a couple of mouthfuls and that was it. Is he just being fussy? Has he gone off ND (I've got boxes of it in the garage - as well as 15kg of Skinners he didn't like ). Or is he not well? He poo's are slightly loose, but nothing I'm too worried about.
He seems ok in himself - he has just been wormed (no evidence of any though) but only weighs 5kg, so can't really afford to let him go hungry.
Why is it that you get over one obstacle, and then get another straight away - if it's not Barney, it's the cat! I am thinking of moving to the vets!!
Thanks for any help and advice in advance
A worried Gill and awkward s*d Barney!!

Hi Gill,
Just found your post now - how is Barney?
Sorry to hear about his recent not eating, i would probably be inclined to take him to the vet to be checked out if he is still not eating..or bringing up bile.
I know what you mean about moving to the vets... these animals keep them in good business don't they!
If Barney has runny poo's it might be because of the worming treatment, i'd get him checked out with regard to everything else though just to be on the safe side.
Hope he is doing ok, please keep us posted.
All the best
Julie

Hi Julie
Thanks for answering. I had a very fraught weekend with Barney totally disinterested in his food. Can you believe I even found web-site called "my dog won't eat.com"!!!
We spoke about what to do as only the emerency vets were open, and as Barney was himself in every other way, we thought he was either protesting about his food or had a tummy ache but decided to ring the vet on Monday if he was still off his food by then.
I carried on offering him every meal as usual and on the Sunday morning, he stuffed his face!! .....and hasn't stopped since I'm glad to say. In fact he put on 1.1kg this week which is excellent for him as he is such a small pup.
I spoke to the vet nurse at puppy class last night, and she agreed with what we had done, and pointed out that its owners that make puppy's fussy eaters and unless he is not ok in himself, just to carry on offering meals. I do wonder if his appetite wanes a bit during hot spells?
Thanks for your advice anyway - I was beside myself - one thing after another!!

You could well be right about the heat thing, we don`t always want to eat when its really hot, good to hear barney is eating again now though.
Of course it could have been him pulling a fast one and trying to get a different food again!!, I think if we ate the same thing day after day we`d get bored too , I know dogs don`t think like that though I doubt they know fish from meat!, if it tastes good eat it

Glad to hear Barney seems OK now,
although don't know about the heat thing - as the breeder of the pups I went to see this afternoon said "A way to a labradors heart is through its stomach" (mine too come to that - )
I wish Hally would be a little less inclined to eat sometimes (talk about tempting fate ) - no doubt that food is the centre of her world.

I wondered if it was the worming tablet, as these can cause tummy upsets. glad he is back to normal.
