I went home lunch time as usual, to find Harvey and Charlie had managed to get upstairs Sad

Up there they found 2 boxes of Matchmakers and half a box of Mingles, Im sure Harvey would had had most of them, but they've both had an injection to make them sick. Im just waiting for the vets to ring me back.

Apparently Nestle is the worse type to have Sad

Just as Im typing the vets have rang. Poor Charlie hadnt eaten any of it, only dog food had come up. What Harvey brought up brought up looked like a bin bag. Chocolate, wrappers, cat food, cat food wrappers, my daughters play false nails Shocked cardboard, and the vet bed he ate yesterday!

So Charlie can come home but Harvey has to stay over night Sad

Awww, silly monkey! At least you got him to the vets in time and it's out of his system now. I hope he's ok and can come home tomorrow!

Oh no! They are a worry sometimes, aren't they. Sad

Charlie will probably just be extra hungry this evening, but I do hope Harvey is OK for you.

They are monkeys, these labs. Rolling Eyes

Helen.

Oh no, poor Harvey. He certainly has had a good rumage around hasn't he Shocked Glad to hear it's all come up. Are they just keeping him in because of everything he's eaten?

Corbie had the same injection with he was 5 months old for the cleaning sponge he ate, and he was fine afterwards, so I'm sure your boys will be too.

Glad to hear Charlie prefers dog food.

Give them a big hug and hope they're both feeling ok after their ordeal.

Oh dear....Better out than in, in Harveys case by the looks of it. Rolling Eyes

By the sounds of it at least he vomitted most of it up. along with the contents of your house Shocked .

I wonder why the vet said that Nestle was the worse chocolate for them to eat. I thought it was the darkest chocolate that had the highest content of Theobromine, which is what causes poisoning in dogs. Confused

I hope they are feeling better in no time and there are no lasting effects.

Thanks girls Smile Harvey is a nightmare! No wonder his stomach was so bloated.
Jules - maybe they meant Matchmakers is particular? Being dark? Something about the Cocoa content?

I just feel so sorry for poor little Charlie - he was innocent!

Aww yes...Poor Charlie...It's rotten when you get the blame for something you didn't do...Although I'm sure he'll forgive you if you give him something nice for his dinner. Wink

Oh poor old lads! I had to chuckle at the contents of Harvey's stomach, that is a true lab for you!!!!

Hope they will both be fine very soon...

Although I can't quite understand this chocolate thing - years ago Sam ate 1kg of Cadbury Dairy Milk (I'd got it for christmas for my godmother who was house bound and it was what she fancied...). Now I apologise for my ignorance but it was the early days of dog owning and I had no knowledge that chocolate was poisonous to dogs - so apart from telling him I hoped he'd be sick 'cos it would serve him right I did nothing. bloomin' dog did not even have the grace to be sick!!! Needless to say (thankfully) he was fine..

By the time I knew that chocolate was poisonous and had had this confirmed by the vet (because frankly I thought someone was winding me up) Sam had also worked his way through:

1 dozen chocloate cornflake cakes,

800g Thorntons Continental

More Terry's chocolate oranges than i care to think about!

Various xmas tree decorations

And other chocolate items as well - never once with any indication of any signs of anything... if wasn't for the wrappers in his poo i'd ahve the blamed the kids....!

When mentioned to the vet she said she thought that the main danger was from small bits of chocolate fed continuously rather than a major onslaught on the system....

It was like heroin so far as Sam was concerned he was truly addicted, he always managed to find it and get his gnashers round it despite my best efforts - yet in all other respects he was thick as two short planks!!!!
