Hi Lisa, welcome to LF, sorry to hear about the loss of Lucky, good age for a dog but doesn`t make it any easier I know.
I think your doing the right thing waiting till after xmas, a good breeder wouldn`t let their pups go at that time anyway.
As some have said you need to know about all the possible health problems and what should be done by breeders to help prevent this
