Following on from my CDRM thread, I was looking at the TTouch link, then started looking at the TTouch books on Amazon. I was wondering if it is something any of you have used and what the results were like?

Also did you take the dog (or other animal) to a practitioner or did you do it yourself after reading a book???

I quite fancy having a go myself for Tara, as she isn't keen on being manhandled by strangers (far too many vets visits have made her wary) I just don't want to make her worse, if that is possible.

Jules I'm pretty sure Denise took Pudsey to TTouch before his ops.
I think she's away for a couple of weeks but might be worth asking her when she comes back

Yes she did. I bought a book but couldnt get the hang of it to be honest! i prefer to be shown in person than someone trying to explain in books. Being a bit of a synic (sp?!) I do wonder if it really works, or if it works at the time coz you are destressing the dog at that moment. So being shown means I could understand what they were doing!

Jules, you can go to a one day workshop to learn which is what Denise did I think. On the list I sent you there are details on there.

Phil did a bit on Maia and it totally chilled her out.

I had a TTouch practitioner come to the house and show me how to use it on Indi my boy mally because he wasnt tolerating my lab. Indi wasnt keen on having it done and so we havnt had much success really. We tried using a wrap or T shirt but it hasnt really helped him. I do believe that it does help in certin circumstances but to press we are still a split dog household Sad

Hmmm....I think I will get the book and see how I go....If I get stuck or just don't understand (which is always a distinct possibility Wink ) I can try the one day course.

Gill, I'm sorry to hear it didn't have the desired effect, although I'm at a loss as to how anything like this works on behavioural problems. Taras problem is more physical (poss CDRM), so I am just hoping to keep her going for as long as possible and using anything I can to achieve that.

I suppose if it doesn't work (as such) then at least she will have enjoyed being pampered. Wink

It works on behavioural problems by calming the dog down. The wrap or t shirt works by making the dog aware of the parts of its body it can feel the contact and thus altering the way the mind works. It breaks the usual patterns of thought by bringing a different physical awareness to mind. There are also excercises like walking the dog over poles on the ground which are spaced out.....again aimed at making the dog think about what its doing...thus changing the way it thinks and having a knock on effect with the behavour. This was my understanding from the lady who came. I found that really hard to explain.....does it make sense?? Hopefully someone who has more experience and a bit more eloquent will come along with a better explanation. I certainly think it would be worth a try......hope it works for you Smile

I understand what you are saying (I think Wink ) although I'm still at a loss as to how making a dog aware of where it's feet are, can affect it's behaviour......Although I have an open mind and if I was to actually see it work, I probably wouldn't doubt it even if I still didn't understand it. Wink

Ooh i took a Ttouch course by toni somebody or other - apparently quite a 'famous' lady amoung TT in wolves... it was really quite interesting and did have effect on certain dogs - she really knew what she was talking about though but ive always been a bit sceptical
