Hello there

Just wondered if I could get some advice from you all AGAIN!!! How much food should I be giving Oscar each day and should it be once a day or a few times.

At the minute we are feeding him Pedigree Puppy pouches with Pedigree small bite mixer aorund 2 pouches a day and 2 handfuls of mixer each time we normally feed him 3 times a day and Im scared that this is either too little or too much. Our vet said to feed him 3 small meals a day til he got better but now he is much better and more active I wonder shold it be more. I don't want him to get too fat.

Also any advice what is the best food for him. I just want to give him the best out of life and books etc are always too complex and written by someone who doesn't have labs. It's always better to gain advice from people who know.

Sorry for all the question and Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi there, I`m sorry but I can`t remember how old Oscar is?, if he`s still a small pup he should be on 3/4 small meals a day, as he gets older it can be reduced to 3 then two, and possibly one, though I feed CJ twice a day so he does`nt wolf it all down at once and is then hungry a few hours later!

There are different thoughts on the size of a Lab, I was told that CJ needs to lose 5 Kilo`s, but I did`nt think he was overweight and neither did those I spoke to at the GT, he`s a big dog, I`ve heard it said you should be able to see a slight waist on them (which is more than can be seen on me!!) and CJ has that.

I`m sure others with more knowledge than me will be able to help you here Very Happy , i`m just going by what I do for CJ Laughing

Thanks for your reply it has made me feel better that I am feeding him ok. I worry constantly about him with him having a bad start in life. He is 13 1/2 weeks and growing soo quickly.

CJ is gorgeous..

Thanks once again

Hi Mary

Didn't get chance to speak to you yesterday, I thought CJ is in peak condition and he won most hansome dog. He doesn't need to lose any weight - I'm sure some of these vets need their heads read. He is such a credit to you. I told Winston to watch him and learn how to behave properly. lol

Oscars Mommy (thats me too!!) You need to find out Oscar's weight and then follow the instuctions on the packaging - As you are feeding 2 things you will need to proportion the amount i.e 1/2 the daily amount recommended of each. Personally I prefer to feed twice a day and that's from 6months old onwards before that it more regular.

Hope this helps

Thank you for that Shelley, you must have seen him on one of his good moments!! Laughing , though I have to say apart from his pulling, he was a very good boy, much much better than I thought he would be with all the Labs and the other dogs that were there.

I`m sorry I did`nt get to meet you and your two, hopefully next year!, I`m sure there WILL be a next year Laughing

HI Oscarsmommy
I think the question re amounts and how many times have been answered.

Regarding changing his food, if what you are giving him suits him, i would be inclined to leave it alone at the moment being as he had such a bad start.
If you decide to change his food it needs to be done very gradually mix his old food with his new food and gradually change it.

If you keep him on 3 meals until about 5-months or so and then reduce to two, but I always stick to 2 meals right up to old age.
Glad to know he is improving Regards Meg
