wave

I really need some advice and opinions on this, my 2 are due to have their yearly boosters in the next week and before i phone up and book it, i need to decide whether to book a KC jab aswell.

Alfie had the vaccine last year but Billy has never had it but is it worth it?

I've spoke to alot of people who's dogs have still had KC even though they've had the jab but does it make the KC less servere if they've been vaccinated against it?

Do you vaccinate your dogs against it or not and if you don't what are your reasons for not??

All opinions and any advice greatly recieved.

TIA

I have Daisy vaccinated for KC, but only because she needs it to go into Kennels. Daisy had KC a few months after having her jab a few years back, and the vet said this is because there are so many different strains of the virus. Daisy HATES having it done as well, as it's squirted up her nose.

Leo has never had it (never been to kennels). The kennels is the ONLY reason I have it done.

None of mine are vaccinated against it. Gracie still contracted it not long after she has the jab (when I first adopted her) so I think its a complete waste of time. Why kennels still insist on it I shall never know, especially when I hear that most cases are caught while in kennels Evil or Very Mad - they should wake up and stop insisting on this drug which doesnt cover all the strains. But we are all caught in catch 22 here and cant put our dogs into kennels unless they have been vaccinated against it, but we all know its no good!

Mine were done as a stipulation by the boarding kennels last year, but I don't normally.

Here is an interesting article to read that may help you

No...my vet doesn't reccomend it unless you are sending your dog to kennels and then it is just to reduce the amount of strains they can get. HTH

Sadie was vaccinated last week, as she will be going back to work in the next few weeks and the people that run the shoot wanted her done as there has been a bit of an epidemic where they are...either wise, we wouldnt have bothered to be honest!

Ozzie has been vaccinated against KC as well, but again only because kennels insisted on it. We never ended up using the kennels anyway, we were off to London for 2 nights and I was about to put him into kennels when a friend offerred to have him instead for the 2 nights... so I didn't need to get it done after all!!

I would never get it done again if I could find a kennel who doesn't insist on this stupid vaccine which only covers a few of the many different strains... and no, my Vet advises if they have the vaccine and then contract a different strain of KC it won't make it any easier on them...

I would not routinely get it done, only if I was requested to by a kennel.

thank you everyone!!! I'm now going to phone up and book them in just for their boosters and not the KC, i did think it was a waste of money as it doesn't cover all strains of KC but just wanted to make sure Smile

Ruby has never been KC vaccinated - mainly because I knew she would freak at putting it up her nose.

Hope I dont live to regret it Confused

It's a horrible thing though isn't it - it takes 2 people to hold Daisy down to do it. I won't take her now, I make Phil take her, I find it too upsetting!
